PRESS RELEASE | Grove City, OH – Danica Barreau of Pouka Fine Art Pet Portraits in Grove City, Ohio was named a Silver Medalist during Professional Photographers of America’s 2016 International Photographic Competition. Barreau’s work will be on display at the International Photographic Exhibition at Imaging USA, held in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, TX from January 8-10, 2017. This International Photographic Exhibit is held in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention and expo for professional photographers and several photographic associations.
A panel of 46 eminent jurors from across the United States selected the top photographs from nearly 5,700 total submitted entries. Judged against a standard of excellence, just under 2,500 images were selected for the General Collection and 1,030 (roughly 18 percent) were selected for the esteemed Loan Collection—the best of the best. The Loan Collection images will all be published in the much-anticipated “Loan Collection” book and over 200 selected General Collection images will be published in the “Showcase” book by Marathon Press. This is the most prestigious competition of its kind, where images are judged based on a standard of artistic excellence, not against each other. The level of the award is determined by how many of the four submitted images receive the highest possible honor: acceptance into the PPA Loan Collection, which is displayed at photographic exhibitions, conventions and other photography events. Barreau was named a Silver Medalist, by earning a merit—a mark of quality and honor—for each of the four images included in her Master Artist entry case to the International Photographic Competition and that one of her four merited images entered the PPA Loan Collection. In addition, a portrait photograph created by Barreau as part of a separate Photographic Open entry case was also accepted into the Loan Collection. Titled “The Sighs Have It,” Barreau’s photograph will be in the International Photographic Exhibition alongside her Master Artist entries as well as other top photographic works from the competition. These images constitute one of the world’s largest annual exhibits of professional photography gathered simultaneously under one roof and are part of traveling and special invitational displays. Central Ohio residents can view some of Barreau’s work at the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce’s “Arts In the Alley” Photography and Fine Art Shows in Grove City, Ohio on September 17 and 18th, 2016.
