Afternoon Repose

Back in 2011 we adopted a fuzzy white dog who turned out to be an Akbash Dog, a type of Livestock Guardian Dog originally native to Turkey. They’re commonly used in the US to guard goats, sheep, and fowl. Her name is Piper Cub and she is a fierce protector of house and home! She spends most of her days in our living room, watching out for passing people, dogs, cats, squirrels, and delivery people. She has a very distinctive vocabulary of whines and barks and we can usually tell exactly who is passing by and how close they are to the house by the intensity of her challenges.

She likes to nap on the loveseat in the living room where she can awaken at any second to protect us from danger. I took this photograph of her in a quiet moment of repose and then painted it.
