On a sunny day in March I drove up to Akron to photograph puppies. Yeah, it’s a dream job, I know it! I had been commissioned to create a painting for the ESAA National in September and I wanted some reference images of playful puppies. I spent several happy hours chasing these guys around the yard and filling up my cameral “roll”. Then I had to go through the tough job of triage. Although I had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted for the ESAA, I ended up working on a completely different image for myself because I couldn’t get the idea out of my head. I had the opportunity to not only photograph two puppies, but also their mother and grandmother! I decided I wanted to create a generational portrait and that was the birth of “3 Generations of Freckles”.
