Incoming Mischief

My friends Wendy and Patrick brought home a new puppy named Archie. They asked me to photograph him which I enthusiastically did. He was so ornery and I loved his flying ears when he ran at me full-speed. I chose this particular photo to work on because of that impish glint in his eye.

The yellow leaves in the green grass were very distracting so the first thing I did was convert it to an autumn scene by adjusting the background colors in photoshop. I blurred the background to bring him into stark focus, and played around with the lighting. I wanted something a bit more dramatic so I added a stock photo as background and some falling leaves to give movement. Once I was happy with how everything was placed, I painted the image. This took several weeks and multiple edits to get just right.

He’s grown into a big gangly boy, by the way!!
