How to Care for Your Fine Art Prints

While my 8x10 and 11×14 fine art prints are printed on archival paper and sealed with a top-tier UV + hydrophobic coating, some thoughtful care will help keep them vibrant for years to come.

1. Frame with Care

  • Use acid-free, archival-grade materials. Choose mats and backing boards that are labeled “acid-free” or “lignin-free” to prevent yellowing and deterioration.

  • Leave a protective gap between print and glass. A window mat or spacers prevent condensation from touching the paper, which can cause mold or sticking over time.

  • Opt for UV-filtering glass or acrylic glazing. This helps block sun damage while allowing your print to shine through beautifully.

2. Mind Environmental Conditions

  • Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. Exposure to UV light and extreme climate changes are the most common causes of fading or warping . Ideal humidity is around 40–60%, and temperature should stay moderate.

  • Avoid high-moisture rooms. Bathrooms, kitchens, or near heaters can expose the print to warping or mold.

3. Storage Tips

  • Store unframed prints flat, separated, and wrapped. Acid-free tissue, glassine, or Mylar sleeves help protect prints when not displayed.

  • Avoid rolling unless necessary. Rolling can lead to creases—flat keeps the print safer over time.

4. Cleaning & Handling

  • Handle with care: Always hold prints by the edges and avoid touching the surface. Clean hands or gloves help prevent oils, dirt, or fingerprints .

  • Dust frames, not prints: Use a soft microfiber cloth or brush to gently clean frames and glass. Any cleaning solution should be sprayed onto cloth—not directly on the frame or print.

With just a bit of attention and care, your fine art print can remain vibrant and treasured for generations. Plus, should you ever choose to upgrade to a hand-embellished 16×20 canvas, the artwork is already set at that size. A thoughtful, lasting way to celebrate and remember cherished moments.
