THE HYBRID ARTIST

Hybrid Artist Workshops are immersive, hands-on learning experiences for photographers who want to move beyond the file and create painterly, mixed media artwork. These workshops blend modern digital workflows with traditional artistic techniques, helping photographers expand their creative process and elevate what they offer clients.

What Is a Hybrid Artist?

A Hybrid Artist blends technology-driven creation with traditional artistry. In these workshops, photographers learn how to use AI compositing and Photoshop as creative tools, then refine the work with painterly decision-making and hand-painted finishes on canvas.

Who These Workshops Are For

Hybrid Artist Workshops are designed for working photographers who:

  • Want painterly, art-forward results

  • Already use Photoshop and want to push further

  • Are interested in mixed media and hand-finished artwork

  • Want to create distinctive, sellable pieces

The Hybrid Artist Workflow

Participants are guided through a cohesive creative process, including:

Digital Compositing & Enhancement
Using Photoshop and generative AI tools to enhance existing photographs. The focus is on building a strong, painterly foundation designed specifically for print.

Painterly Inspiration
Before moving into hands-on work, we look at historical paintings to understand how traditional artists suggested texture, form, and depth. This provides visual context for how much, or how little, detail is needed when working painterly.

Materials & Preparation
Artists are guided through the materials used in the hybrid process, including canvas print options, brushes, paints, gels, and framing considerations, with an emphasis on choosing products that support hand embellishment.

From Screen to Canvas
The workshop concludes with hands-on application of acrylic paints and gels on canvas. Artists learn where to add texture, where restraint matters, and how hand-painted finishes bring the final artwork to life.

This process is taught in person, by design. Hybrid Artist Workshops are hands-on learning experiences where artistic decisions are demonstrated, discussed, and refined in real time. Classes are kept intentionally small, allowing for individual attention from both instructors and meaningful feedback throughout the day.

Why Learn This From Us

Hybrid Artist Workshops are taught by Danica Barreau and Judy Reinford, working artists who use these techniques every day as part of their professional practice. The methods taught are grounded in real client work and long-term creative sustainability, not trends or theory.

These are tools and workflows actively used to create meaningful, custom artwork for clients.
