Digital Artist Named Double Platinum Medalist and GIA Finalist at the 2021 International Photographic Competition
Grove City, Ohio – Danica Barreau, of Pouka Art & Photography, was the only maker of 1,100 entrants honored with two Platinum Medals at Professional Photographers of America’s (PPA) 2021 International Photographic Competition (IPC). This competition is the most prestigious competition of its kind, where images are judged based on a standard of artistic excellence, not against each other. Of the 8 images Mrs. Barreau was permitted to enter, 6 received an Imaging Excellence award and the remaining two were accepted into PPA’s Showcase Collection.
Mrs. Barreau is a finalist for the fourth year in a row for the Grand Imaging Award (GIA), with two of the 117 images chosen from 5,091 entries. The GIA is the highest image honor presented by PPA. This year’s winner will be announced during the award and degree ceremony at ImagingUSA in National Harbor, MD on January 17, 2022. Mrs. Barreau is also eligible for her Photographic Craftsman Degree, earned by instructing or contributing to the PPA and PPA Affiliate photographic community, to be awarded during that same ceremony.
Earlier this year Mrs. Barreau was named both the Artist of the Year and Photographer of the Year by her state organization, Professional Photographers of Ohio. She also received professional accreditation from the Animal Image Makers, and six of her eight images were PPA NE District Finalists.
“This has been an amazing year,” said the artist. “With private sessions in my home studio coming to a standstill during the pandemic, I decided to try some new things for print competition. I concentrated on experimenting with new editing techniques and refining my digital painting skills. I’m very pleased with the results and honored that my work was recognized by my peers and mentors!”
