THE 205 PROJECT

The AKC currently recognizes 205 dog breeds.

I looked through my portfolio recently and realized I had painted only a fraction of them. That felt like an oversight worth correcting.

So I decided to paint them all.

The plan is straightforward. I'll work through the breeds in rounds, selecting one from each AKC group at a time. Some rounds I'll announce in advance and invite nominations. Others I'll choose based on what's visually interesting or personally overdue.

A few breeds will share a painting. Where the distinction between varieties is primarily size rather than type, such as Standard, Miniature, and Toy Poodles, or a Small and Large Munsterlander, they might all get to live together. The goal is a complete body of work, not an inflated count.

Most of these paintings are not commissions. Some will be composites. Some will be built from reference images rather than a specific dog. What they will be is accurate to the breed, carefully considered, and painted to the same standard as any work that leaves this studio.

Each breed will get its own post. A little about the dog. Something about the painting. Where the reference came from and how the image was built when that's relevant.
